Yogyakarta Day 2

Day 2 we woke up at 3.30am as the car was going at 4am from the Hostel to the temples outside Yogya. We decided to see the temples from the mountain beside the Borobudur temple. The car drive was the bumpiest ride I have ever been on, then there was a little hike to the top of the hill. From the hill we saw the sun rise at almost exactly 6.03.
After the sunrise we took the car down to the temples; for some breakfast. A dry bread with some jam on, some weird fruits and a cup of tea. After this we went to see the mighty temple Borobudur, a buddhist temple that no one knows how it got there. It took a couple of hours and when we were done we went on to the next temple. The ride to that temple was even worse...
The next temple was called Prambanan, and was a Hindu temple. Almost as mighty as Borobudur. We were quite exhausted at this time from all the walking so it got a little boring..
When we got back to the hostel we slept for a bit before we went to the market place again to buy some souvenirs and eat some Indonesian food.

Look I'm a Buddha!

If you could touch the Buddha inside it would bring you luck!

Long Holiday

This weekend was a long weekend in Indonesia. The muslim is celebrating their "christmas" so we had holiday from Thursday to Tuesday. Very nice time to relax and do nothing ^^
Thursday I went for lunch with the office people and afterwards I went with some girls to give food to the poor people in Jakarta.
Friday and SaturdayI were in Tangerang with some work mates celebrating the Idul Fitri, with food and cakes.
Sunday was spent at Ancol Waterpark just relaxing in the water under the sun.
Monday I spent by the pool at my building, getting red as a firetruck... It still burns!!.. Yesterday I went to see the movie Ant-Man. I thought it was gonna be some stupid childrens movie, but it was actually kind of cool! :D

I have been driving a little here too, so now it's gonna be so weird going back to Finland and drive on the other side of the road ^^

Hype Festival

The last two weekends we have had the Hype Festival in North Jakarta. Here are some pics!! (:

Indonesian Food

Some food here in Indonesia is really good and some other is just weird! It also depends were you eat it. A couple of days ago I had Siomay, which is some kind of fish ball or something, that you eat with peanut sauce and a little soya. It is quite alright cuz it doesn't taste like fish. You can see in the picture (:

Some other good food is Sate, which is grilled chicken on sticks, and this you also eat with peanut sauce. Some traditional food is the Nasi Goreng, which means fried rice, and can be with chicken or seafood or what ever you like.
For dessert Ice and jelly is very common, either together or then Ice with different flavours. Like this Nutella Ice Mountain...

Healthy Food?

It's been a while since I posted some food pics now. Well, here it is. It is quite hard to find western food in Indonesia so I made some own food for ones. I was gonna make Chicken Tortillas, but the tortilla bread is 5 times more expensive here than at home so I used salad instead, and it worked very well. Very delicious! (:

I also made a bet with a friend to see how long we could go without candy and other sweet things, so for now fruits are awesome snack!

Durian & Zoo

Saturday evening was spent at Central Park, a big mall in Jakarta, eating and shopping. After the shopping mall we went to a small place to try durian ice cream. If anyone of you know what durian is you know that it smells really bad, and i can tell you the taste is not that good either... Well at least i have tried it now!

Sunday I went with the local bus transport for the first time in Jakarta, and it was not fun! It was very boring and very long, and all the people staring at me didn't make it anymore pleasant... The zoo was nice, though I didn't have time to see all the animals I wanted so I might go back again! (:

Have a great Monday everyone! (:

First Week

First week in Jakarta is soon over. Though we have an event in the weekend so working also then. Have had all kinds of food this week, Indonesian, Chinese, Western and Japanese. They have a lot of restaurants here were you can eat as much as you want and you can cook at the table. This is a chinese restaurant were you cook the ingredients you want.

This week I have also sang some karaoke, who knew asians loves to sing karaoke! ;) They even have private rooms for karaoke!

Later I will show you were I live. You have already seen the view from the apartment so I will show you some pics of the house and insides. Laters!

Indonesia

It has been a busy couple of days now! On Thursday I left Vaasa heading towards Jakarta. It was a long flight with a few connecting flights. I arrived to Jakarta at midnight Finnish time, which means 4am Indonesian time. Before I had the key to my apartment and went to bed it was 6.30. Only to wake up at 10 again to go visit the company where I will be working.
I met some really nice people on the first day and we went for some traditional indonesian lunch/food. All food are quite spicy here but so far so good!

After the lunch I went with two girls from the office to a shopping mall in Central Jakarta. I could easily get lost there! I don't know if it was 8 or 9 floors, it was HUGE! We went shopping for some stuff for my apartment and other stuff!
We came home at 11 in the evening and I was so tired so I slept til 10 in the morning!

My morning view from the 31st floor!

Sunday was spent first at the shopping mall at my apartment. I basically live on top of a shopping mall so when I'm bored you will know where to find me! After lunch me and M went to a shopping mall in West Jakarta, the Central Park. I joined her for church just to see how different it was. First of all the "church" was in the mall, then there was a band playing, people singing and a pastor preaching! They asked me where I was from and the guy talking thanked me for joining from Finland. It was quite fun, except for not understanding when they were speaking indonesian.

After this we went to shop a little more and to have dinner. Penne Bolognese, thank god for some western food in Indonesia! When I came home I wanted to watch a movie but surprise surprise the internet in this country is not the best so no movies for 3 months... ^^ I guess I have a lot of time to do my thesis now!

Nutella Day

Thursdays Nutella day was celebrated with Crêpes, both salty and sweet, and some fresh spring rolls. I though I was gonna roll down the stairs when I went home, that's how full I was! ^^

Moules Frites

Saturday me and three classmates were to Brasserie & Bar Fondis to eat. Two of us had Mussels with Fries, or Moules Frites as they call them in Belgium. It was amazingly good, almost like in Belgium when I ate them there. Mussels with some white wine is the best! Can't wait to go and eat these again! :D

Now I have been sick also for several days.. I don't have time to be sick...

9-11 January

Friday the 9th of January, me and L had a nice little lunch at Hesburger. Though was there some bad salad in my burger so I went complaining. And it paid off! For dessert I got a very nice "little" ice cream (:

Later in the evening I went to Is place for a little badge sewing meeting and afterwards we went listening to Grand at O'malleys. Some very good music!

Saturday 10th of January, me and I went to Malax for a dinner party arranged by the youth organization in Malax. Very good food and very nice company, with about 200 guest in all ages. Afterwards the band Allan and the Astronauts were playing and people were dancing (:

The drink consist of Wine, cognac and beer, with a little decoration on it ^^ I don't think that tasted that well....

Sunday the 11th of January, me and L went to Malax (the lovely Malax) to eat at my parents place :D

Noodles with Shrimps and Mango

I found this really good recipe online for a noodle salad, but changed it a little though according to my supplies :D

0,5 Mango
100gr Shrimps
100gr Surimi
1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
150-200gr Green beans
100gr Noodles, I used rice noodles

Marinade:
1 tablespoon Ginger, freshly grated
1 tablespoon Soya sauce
1 Clove of Garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon Sesame oil
2 teaspoons Rice Vinegar
0,5 Chilipaprika, chopped

1. Roast the sesame seed in a dry and hot frying pan. Peel the shrimps and chop the surimi. Boil the beans a little. Rinse them with cold water. Peel the mango and cut the fruitmeat of it, cut it in thin slices. Put shrimps, surimi, beans and mango in a serving bowl.
2. Mix the marinade and pour it over the shrimp mix.
3. Boil the water for the noodles with a little salt, and cook the noodles according to the instructions. Pour of the water. Cut the noodles with scissors so they are easier to eat. Put them with the shrimps, put the sesame seeds on top and SERVE AND ENJOY! (: Can be served with some good bread!

Back in Vasa

On Saturday I went to see the Lovely L who came back from France! She had all kinds of cheese with her and some small gifts for me (:
She also made a French dish called Tartiflette, with potatoes, bacon, cream and cheese on top and it was Superb!

Snapchat pic there ;)

Today I went to Wasa Sports Club and tried a dancing class out, because they had open house. It was really fun, but it is so expensive for a poor student to go there otherwise... (:

New Years Eve

New Years dinner party with some people from Malax! Champange and fireworks at Midnight! (:

I hope everyone get all the best out of 2015!!

Fromage
